US reveals ‘New Gaza’ reconstruction initiative after Gaza peace board launch

WEB DESK: The United States has unveiled a detailed plan to rebuild Gaza, coming on the heels of the Gaza Peace Board’s establishment. Following President Trump’s initiation of the Gaza Peace Board, Jared Kushner, the President’s son-in-law, introduced the ‘New Gaza’ reconstruction blueprint at the World Economic Forum.

Kushner highlighted that the recent two-year conflict in Gaza involved the deployment of 90,000 tons of explosives, resulting in numerous casualties and leaving behind over 60 million tons of rubble. The new plan aims to focus on reconstruction during the next phase of the ceasefire agreement.

According to a report by a British media outlet, Kushner conveyed that the project aligns with President Trump’s vision of uplifting Gaza’s residents. The strategy involves segmenting Gaza into various zones, initiating with Rafah, where new housing and facilities for workers will be developed. Cleanup operations are already underway, setting the stage for a revitalized Gaza with opportunities for new industries and economic growth.

During his presentation, Kushner displayed a slide showing the master plan for ‘New Gaza,’ featuring designated zones for residential areas, data hubs, and manufacturing zones. The visuals also included an artist’s rendering of the Mediterranean coast with towering skyscrapers, inspired by Dubai and Singapore.

Kushner also announced that a conference will be held soon in Washington, where private sector contributions and donations will be announced to support the rebuilding effort.

Critics and analysts note that the proposal sidesteps several vital issues, including property rights, compensation for Palestinians who lost their homes and livelihoods, and where displaced families will reside during the reconstruction phase. The specifics of the plan and its broader impact remain unclear, raising concerns among various stakeholders.
