US sends 15-point peace proposal to Iran via Pakistan: Report

TEHRAN: The United States has reportedly delivered a 15-point peace proposal to Iran through Pakistan, The development comes as Donald Trump expressed optimism about ending nearly a month-long conflict.

The situation showed tentative signs of easing after Iran announced it would allow “non-hostile” vessels to pass through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key channel for global oil supply. This move helped lower crude oil prices, which had surged due to the conflict.

Despite ongoing violence including fresh missile strikes between Iran and Israel  Trump said Washington is currently engaged in negotiations. However, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed any direct talks.

Trump hinted at a positive gesture from Iran, describing it as a “significant gift,” though he did not elaborate. Analysts believe this may refer to Tehran’s decision to ease restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Details of the Proposed Plan

Reports suggest the US proposal includes:

A one-month ceasefire

Talks on limiting Iran’s nuclear program

Transfer or control of enriched uranium

A ban on further uranium enrichment

Guaranteed safe shipping routes in the Gulf

In return, Iran could receive:

Relief from long-standing sanctions

Assistance in developing civilian nuclear energy, particularly at Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant

Tensions Continue Despite Diplomacy

Even with diplomatic signals, the conflict remains intense. Iran accused Israel of launching another strike near Bushehr, raising fears of escalation in the Gulf region.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue operations across Iran and Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions. Israel has also indicated plans to expand its control in southern Lebanon.

Military Build-Up and Regional Impact

The US is reportedly preparing to deploy additional troops to the Middle East, including forces from the 82nd Airborne Division, signaling that military options remain on the table.

The conflict has also spilled into neighboring countries:

Gulf states like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates reported intercepting drones and missiles

A drone strike caused a fire at Kuwait’s main airport fuel facility

Lebanon has faced heavy casualties and mass displacement

Background

The tensions trace back to the collapse of the 2015 nuclear agreement, which Trump withdrew from during his earlier presidency. The current proposal appears to revive elements of that deal while introducing stricter conditions.
