WEB DESK: The United States submarine launched an attack on an Iranian warship close to Sri Lanka, In the footage provided by the US Department of Defense clearly depicts a massive explosion as a torpedo hits the Iranian vessel.
The United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has officially confirmed that the United States was responsible for striking the Iranian warship. He explained, “The Iranian vessel believed it would be safe in international waters, but that assumption proved false.”
Prior to this, international news agencies reported, citing US officials, that the attack was executed by a US submarine targeting the Iranian ship. The vessel was on its way back to Iran after completing military exercises in India when it was struck near Sri Lankan waters.
According to reports from foreign media, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister stated that the ship, named IRIS Dena, was sinking, prompting the Sri Lankan Navy to initiate rescue efforts for the crew. By the time rescue teams arrived, the ship had already gone down.
Officials from Sri Lanka have confirmed that 30 injured sailors have been rescued and transported to local hospitals. Moreover, Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister announced that the US attack resulted in the deaths of 80 Iranian personnel.
