ISLAMABAD: US Vice President J. D. Vance has departed from Maryland for Pakistan to lead the American delegation in crucial negotiations with Iran.
Speaking to media before his departure, Vance said he was traveling under the guidance of President Donald Trump and expressed optimism about the upcoming talks. “If Iran shows goodwill, we are ready to move forward with an open heart,” he stated.
However, the vice president warned that any lack of seriousness or attempts at deception by Tehran would be met with a firm response from the US negotiating team.
The high-stakes talks between Washington and Tehran are scheduled to take place in Islamabad on Saturday, with Pakistan acting as mediator.
The US delegation includes Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Iranian side will be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, alongside Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Diplomatic sources say the negotiations are being closely watched as a potential step toward easing tensions in the region.
