WEB DESK: Veteran Indian actor and comedian Mushtaq Khan has died at the age of 56 in Mumbai, leaving the Hindi entertainment industry mourning the loss of a familiar supporting performer.
Khan, who appeared in numerous Hindi films and television productions over the course of his career, was recognised for his character and comic roles. He featured in popular movies including Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Jodi No. 1 and Welcome.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been officially disclosed. Some reports have claimed that the actor had been battling cancer, but there has been no official confirmation from his family or representatives regarding the cause of his death or his reported health condition.
One of Khan’s notable appearances came in Anees Bazmee’s 2007 comedy Welcome, where he portrayed Ballu, a disabled hockey player. He shared the screen with Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Paresh Rawal in the popular comedy.
His earlier credits included the 1993 film Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Jodi No. 1 in 2001. He remained active in the Indian film industry in later years and appeared in projects including Gadar 2, Stree 2 and Jaat.
Born in Baihar town in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district, Mushtaq Khan went on to establish himself as a recognisable face in Hindi cinema through a wide range of supporting, character and comic roles.
