RAWALPINDI: A violent altercation erupted outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi during a media session with Aleema Khan, sister of PTI leader Imran Khan, on Monday. The incident involved physical clashes between PTI supporters and journalists, with reports of verbal abuse and assault on media personnel.
In response to the violence and harassment they endured, journalists announced a boycott of Aleema Khan’s media interactions. The confrontation followed an earlier incident where Aleema was targeted with eggs during a media engagement outside the jail, which she described as expected and unbothered, before leaving the scene.
According to police, two women affiliated with PTI, who were part of protests over delayed salaries and administrative grievances, threw eggs at Aleema after she refused to answer their questions. They were detained for questioning. The scene escalated as PTI supporters, including former MPA Seemabia Tahir, condemned the egg-throwing and accused the women of attempting to stir chaos and discredit PTI leadership.
The episode underscores rising tensions surrounding Aleema Khan’s legal issues and PTI protests, with media personnel facing hostility and risking their safety during coverage.
