Vlogger detained after filming Imran Khan’s convoy

RWALPINDI: Authorities in Rawalpindi have taken a social media activist into custody for allegedly recording the convoy of former prime minister Imran Khan during his transfer from a hospital back to prison.

Sources said Haider Saeed was detained near Dahgal Naka, an area close to Adiala Jail. He was later moved to the Adiala Police Post for questioning.

The detention followed an incident on Monday night when Khan was being transported from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad to Adiala Jail after undergoing a medical check-up. Saeed is alleged to have recorded video footage of the official motorcade outside the hospital, prompting a security response.

Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases. He maintains that the charges are politically motivated and stem from his removal from office through a parliamentary vote in 2022.

Earlier this week, Khan was taken to PIMS where doctors administered a second anti-VEGF intravitreal injection as part of treatment for a diagnosed eye disorder. A report presented to the Supreme Court stated that he is suffering from central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), leaving him with approximately 15 percent vision in his right eye.

Government officials have said the former premier is receiving appropriate medical care. According to hospital sources, Khan has undergone two eye injections so far and is expected to receive another dose in the coming weeks as part of his ongoing treatment plan.
