Web Desk: The voice against child labor, Iqbal Masih, was remembered on his 30th death anniversary
Iqbal Masih was shot dead in Lahore on this day 30 years ago in Muridke, near Lahore
The 12-year-old boy, who had won a US award for his part in the movement against child labor, was slain, the police had confirmed.
The renowned activist was awarded the Reebok Human Rights Award.
At the time of his murder , he was the president of children’s wing of the Bonded Labor Liberation Front of Pakistan.
According to the police, an employee of a local landlord shot and killed Masih in his hometown of Muridke, near Lahore, while he was on his way home.
Masih was among 3,000 bonded children freed from work in the carpet industry in 1992 as a result of a movement launched by the labor group.
