KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Saturday assured Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Pakistan Army that the people of Karachi were with them in defending the integrity and sovereignty of the country.
Talking to media after appearing before an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), the incarcerated mayor said that the Anti-Terrorism Act’s (ATA) provisions were being misused in the country. He pleaded Chief Justice and judges of Sindh High Court to check the uncalled for and misuse of the ATC provisions.
He strongly condemned the provoked firing at Line of Control (LoC) by India and said that they wanted to made it clear to India and Modi that their unholy designs would be thwarted.
He said that India would be given a befitting response to any kind of aggression.
Regarding the cases he is facing, the mayor said that why action was being taken on 10-year old cases and why action was not taken against him on the cases when he was MNA and holding other positions.
He said that he was behind the bars for the last 71 days.
