Water supply resumes in Karachi following completion of Dhabejee pumping station maintenance

KARACHI: Water services in Karachi have been restored after K-electric successfully concluded its scheduled maintenance at the Dhabejee Pumping Station, according to a spokesperson from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

The KWSC representative confirmed that K-electric completed its annual maintenance activities at the Dhabejee pumping facility. With the maintenance work finalized, power supply to all feeders serving the station has been re-established, allowing water to flow normally across the city. This timely completion of maintenance ensures that residents continue to receive an uninterrupted water supply.

Previously, water distribution in Karachi was temporarily halted due to the scheduled work at the Dhabejee Pumping Station.

K-Electric had announced an 11 KV power outage at the station to facilitate its routine maintenance on January 23, Friday. During this period, the power supply to the second and third phase pump houses was interrupted, halting water pumping operations for several hours. The outage lasted from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, impacting the city’s water supply for approximately eight and a half hours.

Officials estimate that the shutdown resulted in a loss of around 60 million gallons of water, compared to the usual daily supply of approximately 650 million gallons. Despite this shortfall, Karachi continued to receive approximately 590 million gallons, which helped mitigate a complete service disruption.

Certain areas may experience water shortages during the maintenance window. Authorities have identified Lyari, Saddar, and Chanesar Town as particularly vulnerable to shortages. Residents are advised to use water judiciously during this period and avoid unnecessary consumption to lessen the impact.

K-Electric emphasized that the maintenance is vital for the efficient functioning of the pumping station and to prevent potential future failures. The company urged the public to cooperate and conserve water during this necessary maintenance period.
