Weather Alert: Rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms expected across Pakistan from June 11-13, says PMD

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting widespread dust storms, thunderstorms, and rainfall across various regions from June 11 to 13. The agency warns of isolated heavy showers and hailstorms in certain areas amid an approaching western disturbance.

According to the PMD, a western disturbance is expected to influence northern and central Pakistan starting June 11, lasting until June 13, with moist currents from the Arabian Sea further intensifying weather activity in the region.

Predicted weather impacts include:

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Punjab districts Scattered dust storms, windstorms, and thunderstorms, with intermittent breaks. Areas like Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan and Okara may be affected.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dust storms and thunderstorms forecasted in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, and surrounding districts.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Scattered rain, wind, and thunderstorms expected, with heavy rain and hailstorms possible in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit.

Balochistan Northeastern districts such as Zhob, Ziarat, and Dera Bugti may experience dust storms and rain.

Sindh Dust and windstorms likely in Sukkur, Jacobabad, and Khairpur.

The PMD cautions that strong winds, hail, and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, including solar panels, power lines, and billboards. Heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, and other cities, with the risk of landslides in mountainous regions of KP, GB, and Kashmir.

Farmers are advised to secure crops, while travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary journeys during this period. Authorities are advised to stay alert and prepared to mitigate potential hazards.
