ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday rejected an appeal by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the acquittal of a suspect named Attaullah who was under probe for alleged corruption as a cashier of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
As per details, a three-member bench of the SC head by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard a case pertaining to a plea filed by NAB against the acquittal of an accused named Attaullah.
As the hearing went underway, the top judge in his remarks said that the assets of the accused are not beyond his known sources of income.
By expressing anger towards NAB’s attitude Justice Khosa said that does NAB is not only responsible for making cases, the CJP questioned stressing that the anti-graft watchdog has to also prove the case and ensure punishment as well.
He said, “The NAB wrangled a man for 19 years and the anti-graft body should be fined for such an irresponsible act.”
“The NAB has no evidence of embezzlement of the accused on said post,” Justice Khosa added.
“What does NAB actually do?” questioned CJP.
“People are under mental stress due to such attitude of NAB’s attitude,” he concluded.
It is pertinent to mention here that the NAB was investigating Attaullah for alleged corruption as a cashier in the NBP since 2001.
The accused was acquitted four years ago by the court of law.
