WhatsApp Introduces Contact Saving Feature for Improved User Experience

WEB DESK: WhatsApp has rolled out an exciting new update, allowing users to save contacts directly within the app, enhancing the overall user experience.

The innovative feature ensures that even if users lose their phones or switch devices, they can still access all their contacts securely stored in WhatsApp’s cloud storage.

Previously, WhatsApp relied on users’ phone contact books, meaning new contacts were only saved locally on the device. With this upcoming feature, users will be able to save and access contacts from any device, including WhatsApp for Web and Windows, while also retaining the option to sync these contacts with their mobile devices.

This update builds on last year’s introduction of the ability to log into two WhatsApp accounts on a single device, offering users greater flexibility to manage personal and business contacts separately. It is particularly beneficial for those who share devices, allowing them to keep their contact information private.

WhatsApp has implemented a new encrypted storage system called Identity Proof Linked Storage (IPLS), which generates an encryption key on the user’s device to secure contact storage. In partnership with Cloudflare, the app ensures the integrity of contact data by signing any modifications made to the user’s directory.

In an exciting development, WhatsApp is also working on enabling users to save contacts by usernames, further enhancing privacy. This feature will allow users to interact without needing to share their phone numbers, similar to offerings from competitors like Signal and Telegram.
