The commission also accepted the plea from Kanwar Naveed Jamil and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of removing Sattar as the MQM-P convener and also rejected Sattar’s plea against the case.

On March 13, the Election Commission of Pakistan reserved the decision in MQM’s controversial convener case on a petition filed by the MQM PIB head Farooq Sattar against the leader of other factions Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Kanwar Naveed Jamil requests seeking Sattar’s intra-party election void.

Five-member  ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza is hearing the case.In his arguments on March 13, MQM-Buhadrabad group counsel Farogh Naseem told the court that Farooq Sattar has held the intra-party election after amending the party constitution himself as the party next election will held in 2020.

“Party has handed over the powers of allotment of Senate tickets to Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui grabbing from Farooq Sattar as the MQM Rabita Committee has the powers to call the Rabita Committee and general workers meeting,” he told the court.MQM lawyer Frogh Naseem has also submitted the intra-party election held by Farooq Sattar before the court.

In response, the Farooq Sattars’ lawyer mentioned that Farogh Naseem has made the arguments over the party constitution rather election commission powers as ECP has no power to take review of MQM Convener issue. He further told that court that there was no such example of any SC decision in which EECP has ever given powers to check in party’s internal affairs. After the conclusion of the arguments of both parties, ECP has reserved the judgment till March 26.

On March 01, MQM-Pakistan Leader Dr Farooq Sattar challenged the jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the MQM-P convener-ship and intra-party polls issue.

Sattar stated in his plea that the ECP has no jurisdiction to listen to internal matters of a party as their powers are clear under the article 218 and 220 of the constitution.

The plea also asked to reject the application of Kanwar Naveed Jamil.
