Young doctors at R G Kar Govt College, Hospital, IMA announce closure of non-emergency services tomorrow

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday speaking at the rally said that deliberate attempts are made to hide the truth by circulating fake news on social media. “CPI(M), BJP vandalised RG Kar hospital to destroy evidence of crime.

We want the truth to come out, but some quarters peddling lies to mislead people…Nexus of Left, BJP should be exposed, ” said the Bengal CM.

In a show of support for the protests against the alleged rape and murder of the young doctor at R G Kar Government College and Hospital, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a 24-hour nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency services from 6 am on Saturday (August 17).

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court heard a plea seeking restricted access to the crime scene and installation of CCTV cameras at the R G Kar Government Medical College and Hospital, in connection with the vandalism incident that occurred on Wednesday night as people gathered to protest against the rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor.

The matter will be next heard on Wednesday. A day after 19 people were arrested in the vandalism case, five more have been arrested by the police this afternoon taking the total count to 24.

Meanwhile, protesting Bengal BJP workers have been detained after clashing with the police.

On Wednesday, a CBI team initiated the investigation after visiting the hospital. Five doctors have been summoned for questioning in connection with the case.
So far, it’s been found that the wife of Sanjay Roy, the man accused of raping and killing the doctor had lodged a complaint at Khalighat police station.

His wife had alleged that he had assaulted her. Meanwhile, the Kolkata police also detained nine people following a night of violence and vandalism on the ground floor of the Emergency building at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
