ISLAMABAD: The Senate has approved a bill to prohibit child labor in Islamabad.
Senator Fozia Arshad introduced the bill aimed at banning the employment of children. According to the bill, boys under the age of 14 will not be employed, and no harmful work will be assigned to boys aged 14 and above.
The bill states that boys over 14 will not work for more than three hours and will only be employed in jobs that do not interfere with their education.
It further specifies that employment of boys over 14 between 7 PM and 8 AM is prohibited.
The legislation stipulates that employing a child under 14 will result in six months of imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 rupees. Engaging children in harmful or illegal work will incur a fine of 100,000 rupees and a prison sentence of up to three years.
Using children for slavery, forced labor, or in armed conflicts will attract a fine of 1 million rupees and a three-year prison term. Additionally, exploiting children for pornography, drug use, or other illegal activities will lead to a fine of 1 million rupees and three years of imprisonment.
