Jamnagar Fighter Jet crash claims life of Air Force Pilot

NEW DELHI: A Jaguar fighter jet belonging to the Indian Air Force crashed in Jamnagar, Gujarat. One of the pilots managed to eject safely before the crash, while the other pilot tragically lost his life in the incident.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot tragically lost his life when a Jaguar fighter jet crashed in Jamnagar, Gujarat, during a night training mission on Wednesday. The other pilot aboard the aircraft is currently receiving medical treatment. According to an IAF statement, the pilots encountered a technical malfunction and attempted to eject from the plane, successfully preventing harm to the airfield and nearby residents.

In expressing their condolences, the IAF stated, “We deeply regret the loss of life and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family. A Court of Inquiry has been initiated to investigate the cause of the accident.”

The incident involved a twin-seater Jaguar aircraft that was airborne from the Jamnagar Airfield. While one pilot managed to eject safely before the crash, the other unfortunately did not survive the incident.

Footage from the crash site in Suvarda village, approximately 12 kilometers from Jamnagar city, depicted a burning field with parts of the aircraft, including the cockpit and tail, scattered and aflame.

IAF officials noted that the Jaguar, a versatile twin-engine fighter bomber, was undergoing a routine training sortie. The aircraft has been a key asset in the IAF since its induction in the late 1970s and has undergone significant upgrades over the years.
