RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed 11 militants during separate intelligence-based operations in Kharan and Washuk districts of Balochistan, while a large cache of explosives was also recovered, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.
According to the military’s media wing, militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan attempted to block a road and disrupt traffic in Kharan on September 6.
Security forces responded swiftly and engaged the militants, resulting in the deaths of eight terrorists, the statement said.
In a separate operation carried out in Washuk on September 7, troops moved on intelligence indicating the presence of militants in the area and targeted their hideout.
Following an intense exchange of fire, three more terrorists were killed, according to the ISPR.
During the operations, security forces also recovered approximately 2.9 tonnes of explosives, which the militants were allegedly using to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.
The military reiterated that counterterrorism operations under Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, would continue with full determination.
The campaign, it said, is aimed at dismantling the threat posed by foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism and restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
