KARACHI: Karachi experienced yet another mild earthquake late Monday night, marking the 11th tremor within a 24-hour period, according to the Pakistan’s seismic monitoring authorities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the latest quake struck around 11:16 pm, registering a magnitude of 2.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located near Malir, approximately 10 kilometers below the surface. Fortunately, no injuries or damages have been reported so far.
This recent tremor follows a series of seismic activities earlier in the day. At 8:49 pm, a quake with a magnitude of 3.0 was recorded, with its epicenter roughly 30 kilometers east of the Defence Housing Authority at a depth of 13 kilometers.
Additionally, residents felt tremors at around 10:25 am near Landhi and Malir, with the Seismological Centre confirming a 3.2 magnitude quake near Quaidabad at a depth of 10 kilometers, recorded at 10:29 am.
Earlier in the morning, widespread panic ensued when a second round of tremors struck at approximately 11:04 am, prompting many residents to rush out of their homes amid fears of damage.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning that mild aftershocks may continue over the next two days, adding to the residents’ anxiety as the series of seismic events unfolds across the city.
Residents from areas including Landhi, Sherpao Colony, Quaidabad, Malir, Saudabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Khokhrapar, and Steel Town have reported feeling these tremors throughout the day, with many expressing concern over the ongoing seismic activity.
