At least 15 people were killed and 70 other injured when broke out in a packing factory in Bangladesh.
Officials said that at the time of fire, about 100 people were working in factory located in the town of Tongi, just north of the capital Dhaka. The blast was caused by a boiler explosion, and flames quickly spread throughout the building, officials say.
Hospital sources said that most of the injured ad burn injuries.
It is to be mentioned here that factory fires are common in Bangladesh, where safety conditions are often poor.
Fires and other accidents are common in the factories that make up the $27-billion garment industry in Bangladesh, the world’s second-biggest apparel exporter after China.
In November 2012, at least 111 workers were killed when a devastating fire engulfed a nine-storey garment factory in Ashulia industrial area, outside Dhaka. The accident was followed by an even bigger tragedy six months later when 1,138 people died after another clothing factory complex collapsed, trapping over 3,000 workers.
