WEB DESK: In the wake of India’s targeted strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, air travel across the region has experienced significant disruption.
The operation, known as Operation Sindoor, was carried out on May 06 or 07, striking nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in retaliation for the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The strikes, which lasted approximately 26 minutes and were announced by the Ministry of Defence at 1.44 am, marked the first such cross-border military action targeting Pakistan’s Punjab region since the 1971 war, escalating bilateral tensions.
As a security precaution, India has shut down 27 airports across the country for commercial flights until Saturday morning. The closures began shortly after the strikes, which took place around 1.30 am, leading to widespread cancellations and the shutdown of major airspace corridors.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued two NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) — the first affecting 18 airports early Wednesday morning, and a subsequent notice at 3.20 pm extending closures to nine additional airports.
List of Affected Airports:
Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Hindon, Gwalior, Kishangarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Patiala, Shimla, Gaggal, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Halwara, Pathankot, Jammu, Leh, Ludhiana, Bhuntar, Bhatinda, Mundra, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Kandla, Keshod and Bhuj.
This extensive disruption has led to hundreds of flight cancellations and a temporary halt to air movement in the region, reflecting heightened security measures amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.
