WASHINGTON: US and India made a “Mega Partnership, US President Donald Trump held a meeting in which he announced an agreement to import more US oil and gas from Delhi in an attempt to reduce the trade deficit between the two countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday concluded his two-day visit to the US where he held bilateral talks with President Donald Trump. The two leaders discussed key issues including trades, tariffs, extradition of 26/11 accused, Russia-Ukraine war, purchase of F-35 fighter jets and India’s border dispute with China.
Setting the tone of the “MEGA partnership”, PM Modi highlighted India and US’s shared commitment to economic growth and global leadership.
“President Trump often talks about MAGA. In India, we are working towards a Viksit Bharat, which in American context translates into MIGA. And together, the India-USA have a MEGA partnership for prosperity!” he said.
US President stated that, US will impose tariffs equivalent to those imposed by India. He also said that the US and India will jointly combat extremist terrorism, and that Ukraine should not be in NATO. He stated that the reason for the war was the discussion of including Ukraine in NATO.
He added, US will have very good relations with China, and that China could help the US end the war in Ukraine.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his commitment to doubling the trade volume, invited American universities to open campuses in India, and invited the US President to visit India. He stated that the US wants to make itself great, and they (India) also want to make India great.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Elon Musk, a close associate of Trump and head of Tesla, in Washington. Only Musk’s family, including his 3 young children, were present at the meeting.
