15 Bangladeshi men detained in Malaysia for team fraud

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of 15 Bangladeshi men, who claimed to be members of a cricket team, was apprehended at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and denied entry into Malaysia.

Reports from international media indicate that the men were detained by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) on March 17 when they arrived in the country.

The AKPS stated that the group attempted to mislead law enforcement by donning cricket uniforms and presenting what they claimed was an invitation letter for a tournament. However, upon further investigation, the agency determined that the letter, purportedly issued by Penang Cricket, was fraudulent.

The AKPS also found no supporting evidence to corroborate their assertion of being a legitimate cricket team, and confirmed there were no scheduled cricket tournaments in Malaysia during the proposed dates of March 21 to March 23.
