Karachi: Karachi’s major commercial hubs remain shut today as traders all across the mega-city to observe a strike in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Retail and wholesale markets, including Saddar, Old City Area, Hyderi, Liaquatabad, Tariq Road, and the Sarafa Bazaar, are closed in protest.
Trader associations have urged the public to support the strike and make it a success.
President of the Electronics Markets, confirmed that all electronics markets in the city would remain closed, calling it a symbolic show of unity.
Jameel Paracha, a leader of the Karachi Traders Alliance, stated, “The business community stands with the people of Gaza.” Wholesale markets have also joined the strike, and protest camps against Israel are expected to be set up, according to the Chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association.
General Secretary of the Jodia Bazaar Medicine Market announced a complete shutdown of medicine markets. Similarly, Malik Zahid, President of the Shershah Scrap Market, confirmed that their market would also remain closed.
The Tariq Road Traders Alliance has also announced a protest in support of the people of Gaza.
