ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of the recent salary increases for the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a detailed report from the Chairman of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly on this matter. Based on the report, the Prime Minister will make a final decision regarding the salary hike.
Sources also mentioned that the Prime Minister has directed to proceed carefully, considering public reaction and current economic conditions.
It is worth noting that the government had issued a notification just one day before presenting the budget, announcing a 500% increase in the salaries of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate. As a result, the monthly salary of the Speaker and Chairman increased from Rs. 205,000 to Rs. 1.3 million, with the salary hike effective from January 1, 2025.
