Right from the opening whistle, New Zealand set the pace, relentlessly applying pressure on Pakistan. Although the Kiwis initially found the back of the net twice within the first few minutes, both goals were controversially disallowed.
Undeterred, New Zealand broke the deadlock in the sixth minute, igniting a dominant offensive display. They netted two goals in the first quarter, followed by three in the second, and added another in the final quarter. Pakistan fought hard, scoring their first goal in the third quarter and adding a second in the fourth.
