ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), under the leadership of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, has approved the draft for the SJC Service Rules 2025 and deliberated on a set of 24 complaints during a recent session.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the meeting was attended by Supreme Court Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Munib Akhtar, as well as Chief Justice Aalia Neelum of the Lahore High Court and Chief Justice Junaid Ghaffar of the Sindh High Court.
The council also highlighted the need for further legal review concerning proposed amendments to the judicial code of conduct. It called for more extensive consultation regarding the process for conducting inquiries.
Out of the 24 complaints filed under Articles 209 and 19 of the Constitution, 19 were dismissed unanimously. The remaining five cases were postponed for future consideration.
Sources indicated that the Council turned down a proposal to disclose the names of judges once complaints against them had been resolved.
As a constitutional body tasked with maintaining accountability in the judiciary, the SJC continues to play a crucial role in safeguarding the credibility of the legal system and ensuring public confidence in judicial processes.
