Tourists Safely Evacuated After Landslide Blocks Saiful Muluk Lake Route

PESHAWAR: A major landslide, triggered by a sudden cloudburst, stranded over 60 jeeps carrying tourists on the road to Saiful Muluk Lake near Naran, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, late Friday night. The incident occurred after intense rainfall hit the upper reaches of the Kaghan Valley, sending mud and debris cascading down the narrow mountain road.

The landslide cut off access to and from the lake, leaving numerous families — including women and children — stuck in difficult weather conditions. Videos circulating on social media showed long lines of halted vehicles and tourists waiting beside the blocked road.

Swift action by the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) ensured that the situation was brought under control within hours. According to a spokesperson, KDA’s Engineering One team dispatched heavy machinery to the site and successfully cleared the debris from the road.

“All the tourists, along with the more than 60 jeeps that had been stuck, have been evacuated safely,” the spokesperson said, confirming there were no casualties.

Rescue teams worked through the challenging terrain and poor weather to reach the affected site, ensuring all stranded individuals were assisted. The prompt response drew appreciation from both local authorities and visitors.
