RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police apprehended Aleema Khan and Noreen Niazi, sisters of PTI leader Imran Khan, near the Dahgal checkpoint close to Adiala Jail on Monday, after they staged a demonstration demanding access to meet their brother.
Sources indicate that the women were escorted to Chakri Interchange following their detention, while nine PTI supporters detained alongside them were subsequently released.
The sisters initiated a sit-in at the Dahgal checkpoint to protest being denied permission to meet Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail. Despite police requests for them to disperse and return, the women persisted in their protest.
Prior to their detention, Aleema Khan addressed media representatives near the jail, criticizing the authorities for allegedly blocking an “open trial” for Imran Khan. She claimed that the government’s refusal to allow such proceedings was motivated by fear, suggesting that if an open trial were permitted, it might lead to the release of others as well.
Aleema further stated that the authorities had planned a scheduled meeting with her brother but were halted two kilometers away from the jail, accusing the government of acting out of apprehension.
