KARACHI: Farhan Ghani, the Chairman of Chanesar Town and brother of Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani, along with two others, were released on Saturday after the complainant in a case involving violence and threats retracted his allegations.
According to defense attorney Waqar Alam Abbasi, the complainant, Sohail Ahmed, submitted a written request to the investigating officer, stating his decision to withdraw the case. Following this, the police released the accused from Ferozabad police station without bringing them before a court. The investigating officer is now expected to submit a report to the court regarding their release.
Case Background
The trio had been in police custody after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) ordered their remand until August 30. The case was originally filed under multiple charges, including terrorism, attempted murder, and criminal intimidation.
In his FIR, Sohail Ahmed accused the accused of attacking him while he was supervising fiber optic cable work along Shara-e-Faisal Service Road on August 22. Ahmed claimed that between 20 to 25 armed men in three vehicles ambushed him, beating him and threatening him with death, despite his attempts to identify himself.
Other suspects named in the case included Qamaruddin, Shakeel Chandio, Sikandar, and Rohan. Police had indicated that more attackers would be identified as the investigation progressed.
Surrender and Court Proceedings
Following the filing of the case, Farhan Ghani and his associates surrendered to the police at Ferozabad station. Initially, the court granted them a one-day transit remand, which was later extended by the ATC.
With the complainant now retracting the allegations, the case against them has been effectively dropped, and the accused have been released from cusdody.
