LONDON: During a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed efforts to regain control of Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
The historic base, constructed by the Soviet Union, served as the primary hub for American military operations in Afghanistan following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, until the U.S. withdrawal in 2021, which resulted in the Taliban taking over.
Trump stated, “We are working to recover Bagram,” highlighting its strategic importance due to its proximity to China. “Our goal is to bring that base back under our control,” he emphasized.
