ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has expressed confidence that former senator Mushtaq Ahmad will be evacuated in the coming days. The ministry emphasized that intensive efforts are underway to ensure his safe return following his detention by Israeli forces during the Gaza aid flotilla interception.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry highlighted that the Pakistani Embassy in Amman is actively coordinating with Jordanian authorities to facilitate the ex-senator’s evacuation. “We remain hopeful that, with Jordan’s invaluable cooperation, the process will be successfully completed shortly,” the FO remarked.
Pakistan also extended gratitude to Jordan for their support and assistance in this matter. The ministry reiterated its ongoing engagement with international partners to secure the safety and repatriation of Pakistani nationals.
Earlier, the FO confirmed that Pakistan is working through diplomatic channels with a friendly European nation to confirm that Mushtaq Ahmad is in Israeli custody and in good health. The authorities have been informed that he will appear before a court, and once deportation orders are issued, efforts will be made to expedite his repatriation.
Mushtaq Ahmad was detained on October 2 while participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, which aimed to deliver aid to Gaza and challenge the Israeli blockade. Leading a five-member Pakistani delegation, he joined international activists and humanitarian groups aboard vessels intercepted by Israeli forces approximately 42.5 nautical miles from Gaza. The incident has drawn significant global criticism of Israel’s actions.
