LHC holds off on ruling, reserves verdict on Ejaz Chaudhary’s bail requests in May 9 cases

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday deferred its decision regarding bail applications filed by PTI leader and former senator Ejaz Chaudhary in three cases linked to the May 9 incidents. The court reserved its judgment after reviewing all arguments presented during the hearing.

A bench comprising two judges, led by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, presided over the proceedings. During the session, counsel for Chaudhary, Mian Ali Ashfaq, argued that the trial court’s rejection of bail was unjustified and based on politically motivated grounds. He emphasized that at the time of the incidents, Chaudhary was detained in Islamabad and could not have possibly incited violence.

The defense lawyer also pointed out that there was no concrete evidence connecting Chaudhary to the acts of violence or arson. Conversely, the prosecution claimed that although Chaudhary was not present at the scene and was not named in the FIR, he allegedly incited supporters via social media platforms. Additionally, authorities recovered ten petrol bombs from his residence.

After hearing both sides, the court decided to reserve its verdict on the bail petitions, with a formal ruling to be issued at a later date.
