GHOTKI: Tufail Rind, the General Secretary of the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club, was fatally shot in a targeted attack in Ghotki on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.
The incident occurred near Masoo Wah on Jarwar Road in the Mirpur Mathelo area. Rind was on his motorcycle, accompanied by his eight-year-old niece, when unidentified assailants opened fire, leading to his instant death. The young girl, who was riding with him, was thrown off the motorcycle during the attack and sustained minor injuries. She was hospitalized but later succumbed to trauma, police reported.
Rind’s body was transported to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Mirpur Mathelo where authorities have launched an investigation into the murder.
Police officials stated that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the case. Ghotki SSP indicated that the killing may be linked to a property ownership dispute and assured that all culprits would soon be brought to justice.
The Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, expressed profound sorrow over Rind’s death, emphasizing that violence against journalists undermines press freedom. His spokesperson announced that the chief minister has requested a comprehensive report on the incident from the Sindh Police Inspector General.
In protest against the killing, local journalists gathered outside the SSP office in Ghotki, demanding swift justice for their colleague.
