ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has introduced the “Roshan Maeeshat Power Package” aimed at bolstering the country’s industrial and agricultural sectors.
The announcement was made during a meeting in Islamabad with representatives from the business community and experts specializing in industry and agriculture.
As part of the package, industries and farmers will be provided with additional electricity at reduced rates over a three-year period, from November 2025 to October 2028. Currently, electricity costs stand at 34 rupees per unit for industrial units and 38 rupees per unit for agriculture. Under the new initiative, these sectors will be able to access additional units at a reduced rate of 22.98 rupees per unit year-round.
The Prime Minister clarified that this relief measure would not impose any additional burden on domestic consumers or other sectors. He also commended Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for their dedicated efforts in preparing this package.
Highlighting the significance of industry and agriculture for economic growth and job creation, the Prime Minister stated that the government is taking every step to enhance competitiveness and improve the ease of doing business in these sectors.
He also reflected on last year’s package, under which the industrial and agricultural sectors utilized an additional 410 gigawatts of electricity, leading to higher production, increased exports, and more employment opportunities.
Acknowledging the hard work of the government’s economic team in achieving stability during challenging times, he expressed confidence that strengthening these key sectors would help the country reduce its reliance on debt.
He further emphasized that improving economic indicators and striving for self-sufficiency would pave the way for a prosperous future.
