ISLAMABAD: There is a possibility that Justice Aminuddin will be appointed as the head of the Federal Constitutional Court. A notification regarding this appointment is expected to be issued today.
Justice Aminuddin is currently the head of the Constitutional Bench and is set to retire at the end of this month. Sources indicate that Chief Justice Yehia Afridi hosted a dinner in honor of Justice Aminuddin. The dinner will be held tomorrow at the Chief Justice’s House, and judges of the Supreme Court have also been invited to the event. Justice Aminuddin is scheduled to retire on November 30.
It is worth noting that the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill has already been approved by both houses of Parliament and has become part of the Constitution after receiving the President’s signature.
Under the amended Article 176, the current Chief Justice will be referred to as the Chief Justice of Pakistan until the completion of their term. Additionally, an amendment was made to Article 255(2), which concerns the appointment of the Chief Justice of Pakistan after the current term.
According to the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the President will appoint judges of the Federal Constitutional Court based on the advice of the Prime Minister, and the most senior judge from the Supreme Court or the Federal Constitutional Court will serve as the Chief Justice.
