ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad District and Sessions Courts on Tuesday extended the pre-arrest bail of former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in connection with the May 9 riots and five other cases.
The hearing, presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Mujooka, involved the PTI founder, addressing charges related to the May 9 incident as well as several other similar cases.
As Imran Khan did not appear before the court, arguments on the bail petitions could not proceed, leading the court to adjourn the matter until December 23.
Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned since 2023, faces multiple charges, including corruption, land fraud, and the disclosure of official secrets. He is also being tried separately for allegations linked to the May 9 riots.
The government has accused him and other PTI leaders of instigating violent protests on May 9, 2023. These demonstrations saw attacks on military and government buildings, including the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and Jinnah House in Lahore.
The former prime minister has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the cases against him are politically motivated attempts to weaken his party.
