The President of Indonesia is in Islamabad for a two-day official visit

ISLAMABAD: President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia arrived on Monday for a two-day official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, receiving a red-carpet welcome upon his arrival.

At Nur Khan Airbase, President Prabowo was warmly greeted by both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by cabinet members and senior officials.

A ceremonial reception followed, with a contingent of the Presidential Bodyguard presenting a static salute. The Indonesian president was joined by a high-level delegation, including key ministers and senior officials.

This marks President Prabowo’s first visit to Pakistan since assuming office. The last Indonesian presidential visit was undertaken by former President Joko Widodo in 2018.

During his trip, President Prabowo plans to engage in delegation-level discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz and meet with President Asif Ali Zardari. Additionally, the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, are scheduled to call on the visiting president.

Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are also expected to be signed during this visit.

The timing of President Prabowo’s visit holds special importance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Indonesia.

Discussions will cover a broad agenda aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and identifying new areas for collaboration, including trade, investment, defence, health, information technology, climate action, education, culture, and enhanced cooperation on regional and global platforms.
