US publication praises Pakistan as an emerging global diplomatic force

ISLAMABAD: The prominent American publication, The Diplomat, has identified 2025 as a transformative year for Pakistan, marking its strategic revival, bolstered military confidence, and an enhanced global reputation.

Emerging from years of turbulence, Pakistan reclaimed international attention due to decisive military leadership and a unified state policy aimed at combating extremism, the magazine reported. A cornerstone of this resurgence was the Pakistani military’s clear stance that the authority to declare jihad lies exclusively with the state, nullifying claims by non-state entities.

The report underscored the pivotal role played by Pakistan’s armed forces in safeguarding national interests and maintaining internal stability. Notably, military engagements with India in May 2025 garnered global scrutiny, with “The Diplomat” asserting that Pakistan’s measured and strategic response helped redefine the regional military equilibrium.

Despite constrained resources, Pakistan demonstrated robust deterrence capabilities, reinforcing its strategic credibility and earning renewed international confidence in its defense posture. The publication noted that Pakistan’s military professionalism and operational effectiveness became central subjects in global defense analyses, reaffirming its military’s competence in addressing both domestic and external challenges.

Moreover, “Foreign Policy”, another influential US magazine, highlighted Pakistan’s strategic advancements under US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy. Categorizing Pakistan among the “winners” of that era as opposed to India, which it labeled among the “losers” the publication described a subtle but impactful return of Pakistan to Washington’s good graces during Trump’s second term.

According to “Foreign Policy”, Pakistan managed to secure an unprecedented level of trust and access in Washington, surpassing even some of America’s traditional allies. One major milestone during this period was Pakistan’s instrumental role in apprehending a globally wanted terror mastermind, which significantly bolstered its credibility as a dependable partner in counterterrorism efforts.

The report also praised Pakistan’s pragmatic approach within Trump’s transactional foreign policy framework. Collaborations on trade, critical minerals, and even cryptocurrencies were highlighted as key areas where bilateral relations flourished. The military leadership in Pakistan, particularly under Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was credited with playing a pivotal role in fostering these improved ties. Personal rapport between Trump and Pakistan’s top military brass further enhanced the country’s standing in US foreign policy circles.

In contrast, the publication noted a sharp decline in US-India relations, describing them as reaching their lowest ebb in two decades.

Both “The Diplomat” and “Foreign Policy” concluded that 2025 presents Pakistan with an unparalleled opportunity to convert its newly regained international trust into long-term political and economic stability. This year has the potential to serve as a turning point for the country’s aspirations on the world stage.
