KARACHI: An eight-year-old boy lost his life after falling into an open sewer in Mehran Town, Korangi, Karachi, police confirmed on Monday.
The child, identified as Dilbar, was reportedly playing outside his residence when he accidentally fell into the uncovered sewer. The boy’s uncle was able to recover his body after neighbors’ children alerted the family about the incident.
Authorities stated that the body has been transported to a hospital for necessary legal procedures. The tragic event echoes a similar incident that occurred just a month prior, sparking widespread concern and outrage on social media.
Last November 30, a three-year-old boy named Muhammad Ibrahim slipped into an uncovered manhole outside a departmental store near Karachi’s Nipa Flyover. Community members pooled funds and arranged machinery in a desperate attempt to rescue him. Unfortunately, the child’s body was recovered 14 hours later.
Following that incident, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited the child’s family to express condolences and apologized for the tragedy. He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, and any negligent parties would be held accountable.
Recently, the Karachi police committee classified the recent death as an “accident.” Based on the statements of the parents and the circumstances surrounding the incident, officials confirmed that no criminal offense was involved, and the death was deemed accidental.
