KARACHI: Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho has outlined his priorities for transforming police culture, stressing the need to improve the public image of law enforcement and reform practices at police stations.
Speaking during his first introductory meeting as IG Sindh, Odho emphasized that fostering a positive police station environment must be a top priority. He also announced a strict zero-tolerance policy against criminal activity.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from multiple wings of the police, including the Special Branch, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Protection Unit (SPU), and Rapid Response Force (RRF). Officials briefed the new police chief on the performance and operational readiness of their respective units.
IG Odho instructed authorities to accelerate the digital transformation of police departments, highlighting that shifting more services online would help improve public access and efficiency. He invited senior officers to share recommendations aimed at further strengthening police performance across the province.
Acknowledging support from the Sindh government, Odho said the provincial administration was extending full cooperation and providing required resources to the police force. He also directed officers to ensure proper documentation and daily reporting of police activities.
Javed Alam Odho officially assumed office as Inspector General of Sindh Police following the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Memon on December 31. His appointment was formally notified by the Establishment Division after approval from the federal government. Prior to this role, Odho served as Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi and was widely seen as the leading candidate for the position.
Upon his arrival at Karachi’s Central Police Office, the new IG was presented with a guard of honor by a special police contingent. He later met with senior officers stationed at the CPO and paid tribute to fallen police personnel by laying a floral wreath at the police martyrs’ memorial and offering Fateha.
