Govt dismisses reports of tirah valley evacuation as false

ISLAMABAD:  The federal government has categorically denied circulating reports that claim the Tirah Valley is being evacuated on the directives of the army or the federal authorities, calling such claims misleading and unfounded.

In an official statement shared on social media, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said it had taken notice of misinformation spreading online regarding an alleged evacuation of Tirah Valley. The ministry stressed that no such orders have been issued by either the federal government or the armed forces.

According to the ministry, these reports are malicious in nature and appear to be driven by specific motives, including the creation of fear and unrest among the public, the dissemination of false narratives against security institutions, and the pursuit of personal or political agendas.

The ministry clarified that law enforcement agencies conduct counter-terrorism operations strictly on the basis of intelligence inputs, ensuring that civilian lives and property remain protected. It added that such operations do not require forced displacement, nor is any population transfer currently underway.

The statement further noted that residents of Tirah Valley themselves have raised concerns about the presence of Khawarij elements in the area and have consistently expressed a desire for peace and stability.

The Ministry of Information also referred to a notification issued on December 26, 2025, by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s Relief, Rehabilitation and Resettlement

Department, under which approximately Rs4 billion was allocated. The funds were set aside as a precautionary measure to address any possible, short-term, and voluntary movement of people from specific areas of Tirah (Bagh).

The allocated amount is intended to support preparedness and relief efforts, including transportation, food supplies, financial assistance, and the setup of temporary accommodation and registration facilities. The document clarified that, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Khyber, any voluntary relocation plan was based on the views of local residents, gathered through a representative district-level jirga.

It also took into account weather conditions, administrative capacity, and other local considerations, and specified that no camps would be established as part of the process.

The ministry strongly rejected any claims by provincial officials or others suggesting that the armed forces were behind such displacement, calling these assertions false, fabricated, and damaging. It said such statements are politically motivated and aimed at undermining the reputation of security institutions, which it termed deeply unfortunate.
