LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday announced an extension in Basant celebration timings across Lahore, allowing festivities to continue until 5:00am on Monday.
Sharing the announcement on X, the chief minister said the decision was taken in view of the lively yet orderly celebrations witnessed across Lahore and other parts of Punjab, marking the festival’s return after 25 years.
She said the extended timings were a gesture of appreciation for citizens who celebrated Basant responsibly while strictly observing safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Maryam Nawaz urged the public to maintain caution, particularly regarding electric wires and rooftop safety, and to continue following all guidelines to ensure the celebrations remain safe and incident-free.
The chief minister also revealed that the Punjab government is considering expanding Basant festivities to other cities, following what she described as a successful and secure celebration in Lahore.
Expressing satisfaction over the Basant Gala, she noted that families and children participated enthusiastically while adhering to safety measures. She added that safari parks and wildlife parks were filled with colour and cultural activity, reflecting responsible celebrations.
Praising Lahore’s residents for their cooperation, Maryam Nawaz said the city had lived up to the government’s trust, adding that the joyful atmosphere made both Lahore and its leadership proud.
