QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has introduced the Green Peoples Bus Service in Turbat, aiming to offer residents a safer, more comfortable, and efficient public transportation option while improving mobility in the region.
The service was officially launched by Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, during a ceremony held at the Circuit House Turbat. With this launch, Turbat becomes the second city in the province after Quetta to receive the modern bus system.
Addressing the event, Bugti said the project marks an important development for the province’s urban transport network. He noted that the new service will not only assist residents of Turbat but will also facilitate travel for people living across Kech District.
The chief minister also revealed plans to soon introduce a Pink Bus Service designed specifically for women to provide safer and more convenient travel for female passengers.
Officials stated that the buses are equipped with modern features. Each vehicle has seating for 37 passengers and can carry up to 100 people including standing commuters. During the initial phase, four buses have been deployed in the city.
Authorities plan to establish 18 bus stops along a 19-kilometre route linking Turbat with surrounding suburban areas. The transport system is expected to serve approximately 4,500 passengers each day.
The buses include reserved seating for women, children, and elderly passengers. They also provide facilities such as wheelchair access, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and automatic hydraulic doors. Digital display screens installed inside and outside the buses provide route details and travel information.
Officials added that the final routes and fare structure will be decided after further evaluation. Meanwhile, the government is also considering offering free travel on the buses for the first two years of operation.
