Pakistan engaged with Iran, Saudi Arabia on regional issues: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Rana Sanaullah, Adviser to the Prime Minister, stated that Pakistan’s leadership is actively engaging with key Muslim countries to address the current regional developments.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Sanaullah revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently held discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and also traveled to Saudi Arabia to strengthen diplomatic ties.

He emphasized that Pakistan has a longstanding defense agreement with Saudi Arabia and remains committed to it. Sanaullah expressed optimism that ongoing talks between Saudi officials and the Iranian leadership could lead to improved regional stability.

He also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s cautious approach as a positive sign, urging Iran to refrain from targeting other Muslim nations, especially Saudi Arabia.

Regarding regional security concerns, Sanaullah clarified that Pakistan does not aim to dominate Afghanistan nor seeks to cause harm to its neighbor. The country’s primary concern is safeguarding its own security.

On the matter of the governor change in Sindh, Sanaullah explained that it was decided that the new governors of Sindh and Balochistan would be members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He clarified that there was no formal agreement with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) that the Sindh governor would be from their party.

He added that Kamran Tessori has been serving as governor since the caretaker government led by former Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and initially, there was no urgent need for a change as the administration was functioning smoothly. However, circumstances later necessitated the appointment of a new governor.

Sanaullah noted that Tessori’s appointment was made during the caretaker government, and Kakar could provide details on whose recommendation was responsible. He also mentioned that discussions regarding the governor’s appointment with MQM-P were conducted appropriately and in a transparent manner.
