Govt urges Citizens to Conserve Petrol and Diesel Amid Regional Unrest

ISLAMABAD: The government has called on the public to take proactive steps to conserve petrol and diesel supplies, aiming to prevent potential disruptions in the availability of fuel in the near future.

This appeal was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, where officials discussed urgent fuel conservation strategies in light of the escalating regional tensions.

The meeting underscored the importance of preparedness and flexibility, emphasizing that strategies must be adjusted according to evolving circumstances. Participants were advised to promote carpooling and collective transportation to reduce fuel consumption. Additionally, unnecessary travel and non-essential journeys should be avoided to preserve fuel stocks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed relevant agencies to stay alert and ready to implement emergency measures if needed. He highlighted that austerity policies have helped provide some relief to the public and stressed the importance of continuing such efforts.

It was reported that Pakistan currently maintains sufficient reserves of petroleum products to meet national demands, with ongoing arrangements to bolster stockpiles. However, given the tense regional situation, especially in the Middle East, supplementary conservation measures are expected to be enforced in the coming days to mitigate potential supply disruptions.

The Prime Minister also instructed the formulation of a comprehensive contingency plan in collaboration with provincial authorities to effectively respond to any emergency scenarios.

The meeting was attended by senior military officials, including Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with National Security Advisor Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik.
