ISLAMABAD: The government has introduced a new mobile application aimed at providing subsidized petrol to low-income riders, with an initial allocation of 20 liters per month for motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers.
In response to the ongoing energy crisis driven by regional geopolitical tensions, the federal government has finalized a plan to offer targeted fuel relief to economically vulnerable groups. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Information Technology has developed a dedicated app to facilitate transparent and efficient distribution of subsidized fuel.
Currently in testing phases, the app will connect to 12,000 petrol stations equipped with tracking devices and special nozzles to monitor fuel dispensing and ensure fair access for eligible users.
To benefit from this scheme, individuals must download the app and register by providing their CNIC and the registration numbers of their motorcycles or rickshaws. A quota of 20 liters per month has been allocated per user, with automatic adjustments based on fuel availability and demand.
Officials explained that the policy aims to pass on the burden of rising international oil prices to high-volume consumers, while safeguarding low-income earners through this digital subsidy system. Discussions are also underway to include vehicles up to 800cc in the subsidy scheme, but no final decision has been made yet.
