PPMA Refutes Claims of Medicine Shortage, Assures Steady Supply Nationwide

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association has strongly denied reports suggesting a shortage of medicines in the country, reassuring the public that supplies remain stable despite rising production costs.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the association dismissed recent media claims as unverified, emphasizing that the prices of essential medicines regulated by the government have remained unchanged in recent months. This comes even as fuel prices, transportation costs, and the import expenses of raw materials have increased amid the prevailing regional situation.

“There is no shortage of medicines across Pakistan,” the PPMA stated, adding that both essential and non-essential drugs are readily available in the market.

The association highlighted that critical medicines, including insulin, antibiotics, cardiovascular treatments, anti-hypertensive and anti-diabetic drugs, as well as vaccines, are being supplied without any disruption.

Industry officials noted that local manufacturers have absorbed significant financial pressure caused by higher costs of imported active pharmaceutical ingredients and other inputs, while continuing uninterrupted production and distribution.

They further pointed out that nearly 90 percent of the country’s pharmaceutical needs are met through domestic production, and that sufficient stocks of both raw materials and finished medicines are currently available to meet nationwide demand.

The PPMA also called on media organizations to act responsibly and avoid spreading unverified or sensational reports, warning that such information could create unnecessary panic among patients and negatively impact public confidence in the healthcare system.
