PM Shehbaz assures adequate fuel supply, highlights relief measures

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday reassured that Pakistan has sufficient petroleum reserves to meet national demand, crediting the government’s timely decisions amid the ongoing regional situation.

The assurance came during a high-level review meeting chaired by the premier to evaluate fuel conservation measures and austerity policies. He emphasized that providing relief to the public remains the government’s top priority, noting that several steps have been taken over the past three weeks to ease the burden on citizens.

To shield consumers from rising global oil prices, the prime minister said the federal government allocated Rs125 billion by reducing development expenditures. The move, he explained, was aimed at preventing a direct impact of international market fluctuations on domestic fuel prices.

Shehbaz Sharif also urged citizens to support the national conservation drive by limiting unnecessary travel and adopting teleconferencing in offices and workplaces wherever possible.

In addition, he directed provincial authorities to facilitate motorcycle and rickshaw owners in registering their vehicles under their own names. The initiative is expected to help digitize vehicle data nationwide and enable owners to benefit from future relief programmes.

The prime minister further instructed officials to strengthen coordination with chief secretaries across all provinces, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to ensure smooth implementation of these measures.
