KARACHI: Farooq Sattar has demanded that authorities make public the inquiry report into the deadly Gul Plaza fire, warning that his party will pursue legal avenues if the report continues to be withheld.
Speaking at a press conference in Bahadurabad Karachi, the MQM-P leader urged Shehbaz Sharif and Mohsin Naqvi to take notice of the delay. He also called on the Sindh High Court to play a role in ensuring transparency.
Sattar stressed that the Gul Plaza fire, which occurred on January 17, 2026, claimed dozens of lives and caused significant financial losses to traders. He said a transparent investigation is essential to identify those responsible and deliver justice to the victims.
He revealed that MQM-P had already approached the federal government, with the party’s leadership writing to the prime minister on January 23, seeking the formation of an independent inquiry commission.
Criticizing the provincial administration, Sattar alleged that the Sindh government has hindered efforts to establish a federal-level commission. He argued that if a commission had been formed under the Inquiry Act by the prime minister, there would have been no need for a separate provincial probe.
The MQM-P leader reiterated that his party is prepared to move the courts and federal institutions to ensure the findings are made public and accountability is ensured.
